Next Step

During my Second Year of Univeristy I joined the Lincoln Branch of Enactus.

Enactus is an international non-profit organization that brings together student, academic and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

In the society I joined the Next Step project. Next Step aims to empower young people in Lincolnshire through teaching CV and employability skills to young people. The project is currently in its third year of running, so far we has helped over 300 students. We also place students with companies to help give them work experience.

My work with Next Step has taken many forms. I have helped to develop the website, presentations and workshop content. Working with the team to create presentations on CV’s, Interview Skills, How to make yourself more employable online and How to Start a Business.

During my first year with Enactus I helped to maintain the website and update its contents. This involved the use of HTML/CSS and server side software. My other respoisbilities were to help the team present within the schools. I helped present 2 presentations at Minster School, one at Skegness Grammar School and spent an entire day teaching business skills alone to 90 students at .

During the current year, I have helped transition the website over to a Content Management System (WordPress) and recreated the sites to be more compliant with standards while making several cosmetic changes. I will going to several schools to present throughout the year.

DescriptionSince January 2014, I have been a member of Enactus Lincoln. Working on the project of Next Step. Helping to create a website for the project and volunteering at various schools across Lincolnshire. Working with Matt Acey to create a website that is informative and useful for young people who are leaving sixth form without the necessary basic skills and experience of jobs. Using our own experience as univeristy students and working to provide examples and insight into the world of work. One key responsibility besides the website last year was leading the Self Employment workshops in schools using my previous experience with Fusion Web Design. This year my key focus is on making the website suistanable for after my departure from University. This is why I am porting the website over to a Content Management System (Wordpress) for management of the project in the future.
